We welcome Nicola Palios, Co-Owner and Vice Chairman of Tranmere Rovers, as a VIP Guest at #TDS24.

THE VISION

In June 2021, Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee considered plans for a £200m ‘Sports City’ complex at Bidston Dock that will become Tranmere Rovers’ new home. The football ground includes an in-house hotel with a conference and event centre. The complex will also feature a sports science facility, a digital golf driving range, and a host of food and retail outlets that will see an influx of revenue, jobs, services, and visitors 365 days of the year.

The football ground and the council’s bid to make Tranmere Rovers an established Championship club are central to the plans. The project also includes increasing the size of the stadium by another 10,000 seats, pushing the capacity to 25,000 if needed.

THE BACKGROUND

We caught up with Nicola ahead of #TDS24 to learn about their ambitious plans for the stadium.

TheStadiumBusiness: What’s exciting you in the field of stadium design at present?

Nicola Palios: The key drivers behind our project are developing a stadium and music venue that can become a 365-day activity hub, making the club financially sustainable in higher divisions, and contributing to the regeneration of the Wirral docklands.

TSB: What’s in the pipeline for Tranmere Rovers over the next six to 12 months?

NP: We are looking at completing a feasibility study for a new stadium in conjunction with Liverpool City Region and Wirral Borough Council.

TSB: What are you most looking forward to about the Design & Development Summit 2024?

NP: Getting up to date with the latest breakthroughs in technology and sustainability.
