#TDS24 Q&A: Dan Meis’ Future Vision for Sports Architecture
We caught up with #TDS24 VIP Guest Dan Meis, Director of Global Sports Design, AECOM, ahead of TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit.
Dan began his career in sports architecture in 1992 with Ellerbe Becket (acquired by AECOM in 2009) as the lead designer of the Manchester Arena. Since 2007, he has served as the founder and managing principal of MEIS Architects, a multi-discipline architecture and design practice, where he led game-changing work on stadiums and entertainment centres that span the globe. Dan also brings decades of experience in leadership roles across architecture firms, including Woods Bagot, Populous and NBBJ. His most notable projects include the Staples Center (Crypto.com) arena in Los Angeles, T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, and the new Everton FC stadium in Liverpool, England.
TheStadiumBusiness: What are the most exciting developments in the field of venue design/development?
DM: I am particularly excited to share our vision for the future of Sports Architecture. It has long been a very closely guarded niche of the profession with a handful of usual suspects that I believe is ready for some disruption and innovation. I have fought to achieve this for much of my career, but often in a “David vs Goliath” role against much larger competitors. It is extremely exciting to be positioned to deliver the kind of out-of-the-box creativity we are known for with the support of one of the world’s largest multi-disciplinary global companies.
